Although cryptocurrencies, like bitcoin, are gaining popularity, there are still many associated risks. In forex trading, dealing in a decentralized currency that offers global transactions with no fees is an advantage. But the tradeoff is essentially adding a third currency to what was a trading pair. Traders who want to take on that risk should use only locally regulated forex brokerages.
For trading purposes, the first currency listed in the pair is always the directional currency on a forex price chart. If you pull up a chart of the EUR/USD, and the price is moving higher, it means the EUR is moving higher relative to the USD. If the price on the chart is falling, then the EUR is declining in value relative to the USD. The attached chart shows this.

This free Forex mini-course is designed to teach you the basics of the Forex market and Forex trading in a non-boring way. I know you can find this information elsewhere on the web, but let’s face it; most of it is scattered and pretty dry to read. I will try to make this tutorial as fun as possible so that you can learn about Forex trading and have a good time doing it.
Automated signals on the other hand are robotic in nature and generated from computer software that seeks out certain market dynamics and issues alerts. It removes the emotion from the analysis and looks for concrete market buy/sell signals. It can be quite accurate but it shouldn’t replace the human skill and experience needed to make the final decision.
Once you have your MetaTrader account password, you can practice all of the above until your demo account expires. An important part of the foreign exchange market comes from the financial activities of companies seeking foreign exchange to pay for goods or services. Commercial companies often trade fairly small amounts compared to those of banks or speculators, and their trades often have a little short-term impact on market rates. Nevertheless, trade flows are an important factor in the long-term direction of a currency's exchange rate. Some multinational corporations (MNCs) can have an unpredictable impact when very large positions are covered due to exposures that are not widely known by other market participants.
To understand the revolutionary impact of cryptocurrencies you need to consider both properties. Bitcoin as a permissionless, irreversible, and pseudonymous means of payment is an attack on the control of banks and governments over the monetary transactions of their citizens. You can‘t hinder someone to use Bitcoin, you can‘t prohibit someone to accept a payment, you can‘t undo a transaction.

Automated trading software operates according to a pre-defined trade plan or algorithm without the need for manual intervention. They also sometimes go by the name of Expert Advisors or EAs and often run as such on the popular MetaTrader4 trading platform. The so-called forex trading robots available on the commercial forex market generally fall into this category, as do personalized trade plans that traders program or have programmed themselves.
Whether you are a beginner trader or a pro, it is best to trade with what you see and not what you think. For example, you might think that the US dollar is overvalued and has been overvalued for too long. Naturally, you will want to short and you might be right eventually. But if the price is moving up, it does not matter what you think. In fact, it doesn't matter what anybody thinks – the price is moving up and you should be trading with the trend.
Precious metals prices can and do change throughout the day. Bid and ask prices shown here represent the last published prices per ounce your computer retrieved. Monex monitors marketplace activities and adjusts its Ask, Bid and Spot prices as much as 50 times or more throughout its 11-hour trading day. In active market conditions when metal prices can become extremely volatile, prices can change almost continuously, moving up and/or down many times in a single minute, and for hours on end.
These articles, on the other hand, discuss currency trading as buying and selling currency on the foreign exchange (or "Forex") market with the intent to make money, often called "speculative forex trading". XE does not offer speculative forex trading, nor do we recommend any firms that offer this service. These articles are provided for general information only.
A trading strategy that captures the difference in the interest rates earned from being long a currency that pays a relatively high interest rate and short another currency that pays a lower interest rate. For example: NZD/JPY (New Zealand Dollar/Japanese Yen) has been a famous carry trade for some time. NZD is the high yielder and JPY is the low yielder. Traders looking to take advantage of this interest rate differential would buy NZD and sell JPY, or be long NZD/JPY. When NZD/JPY begins to downtrend for an extended period of time, most likely due to a change in interest rates, the carry trade is said to be unwinding.
As America's longstanding and reliable bullion marketplace for 50 years, Monex companies have been recognized as an industry benchmark for retail bullion investments. What is important is that Monex offers very attractive round-turn competitive prices which are quoted live online, with a single spot price per metal that correlates to COMEX/NYMEX prices almost perfectly. Refer to Atlas Preferred Prices for the best bullion buy and sell prices.

Look at the chart below, a continuation of the EUR/USD. Once the ascending triangle formation is formed, we wait for a confirmation candle to signal a breakout. Since the following candle (at F) continued to advance higher, we enter the position at 1.4160, while placing our stop-loss slightly below the previous significant low at 1.4110 (a 50-pip difference from the buy price).
The categories of XABCD patterns can be broken down into retracement, extensions and x-point patterns. Below we have broken them down and have given you a bit of a description about each of them. Finding them can be tricky if doing it on your own and very time consuming as there are approx 11 ratios in each pattern to measure out. Instead we do it automatically with some tools we’ve created. They also work with audio alerts and other alerting methods so you don’t have to waste your time trying to find them but instead just doing your analysis.

Forex technical analysis is a type of market analysis that relies only on market data numbers - quotes, charts, simple and complex indicators, volume of supply and demand, past market data, etc. The main idea behind technical analysis of currencies is the postulate of functional dependence of the future market technical data on the past market technical data. Same as with fundamental analysis, technical analysis is believed to be self-sufficient and you can use it alone to trade Forex successfully. In practice, both analysis methods are used. Recommended e-books on Forex technical analysis are:

This depends on the rules and procedures set by brokers. Brokers have been using different policies regarding the time frame for holding a demo account. For instance, AvaTrade demo account remains active as long as the traders log in on the trading platform at least once every 10 days. Some brokers offer unlimited funds in demo accounts while other brokers permit to use the specified virtual funds.

Understanding the above concepts will help you grasp what's happening when you see a forex pair rising or falling on a chart. If you do the math on the difference in pips between two price points, it will also help you see the profit potential available from such moves. For more on starting out in forex trading, see Minimum Capital Required to Start Day Trading Forex and How Much Money Can I Make Forex Day Trading? Both these articles provide more examples of how profit is realized in the forex market, as well as introducing new concepts, such as leverage.

Falling wedges are similar to rising wedges but prices consolidate downwards and are normally followed by a breakthrough upwards. The consolidation can be defined as lower lows and lower highs, in which prices break upwards after the consolidation completes. Similar to rising wedges, it doesn't matter if the falling wedge occurs during an uptrend or a downtrend.

Once you can trade without any indicators or mechanical signals, that’s when you know you’ve arrived as a trader. We teach you to shed all the indicators that have never really worked for you, and learn how to read the market contextually. You learn to take advantage of the movements of other traders; to know who’s in control of the market; to gauge where the important moves will start ahead of time. Your trading will be on an entirely different level once you make this transition, and your results will start speaking for themselves.
While all forex brokers offer stop/loss features when trading it is possible to exceed loss levels set due to slippage. Due to the high levels of risk this presents day traders may select a broker that offers guaranteed stop loss orders. This means they can’t lose more than a set amount for a trade. Another fail-safe brokers offer is negative balance protection. This is where broker automatically exit CFDs traders from the market when their deposit level reaches $0 balance. Even if slippage does occur, the broker pays the difference. Reading the risk warnings of brokers is important prior to trading currency.
Sometimes, the Forex market becomes as scared a place as any other market. Rather like during the Panic of 2008 in the stock market, trading comes to a near standstill and many large players lose confidence. This tends to initiate a margin call, which is when everyone who is trading on margins has to return all of the money they borrowed. This can be problematic if one owns currencies which have changed value against them.
When it comes to price patterns, the most important concepts include ones such as support and resistance. Put simply, these terms represent the tendency of a market to bounce back from previous lows and highs. Support is the market's tendency to rise from a previously established low. Resistance is the market's tendency to fall from a previously established high. This occurs because market participants tend to judge subsequent prices against recent highs and lows.
Any forex transaction that settles for a date later than spot is considered a "forward." The price is calculated by adjusting the spot rate to account for the difference in interest rates between the two currencies. The amount of adjustment is called "forward points." The forward points reflect only the interest rate differential between two markets. They are not a forecast of how the spot market will trade at a date in the future.
According to the 2018 Greenwich Associates study, Citigroup and JPMorgan Chase & Co. were the two biggest banks in the forex market, combining for more than 30 percent of the global market share. UBS, Deutsche Bank, and Goldman Sachs made up the remaining places in the top five. According to CLS, a settlement and processing group, the average daily trading volume in January 2018 was $1.805 trillion.

Trading currencies in the trillion-dollar-per-day foreign exchange market is an exciting and potentially lucrative endeavor. But as much riches as it can bestow to aspiring traders and short-term investors, the forex business can also be an unforgiving and unpredictable terrain. Careless and inexperienced traders can see their accounts being blown off the water ... Read more »
Interest rates: Historically, one of the most reliable determinants of gold’s price has been the level of real interest rates, or the interest rate less inflation. When real interest rates are low, investment alternatives like cash and bonds tend to provide a low or negative return, pushing investors to seek alternative ways to protect the value of their wealth. On the other hand, when real interest rates are high, strong returns are possible in cash and bonds and the appeal of holding a yellow metal with few industrial uses diminishes. One easy way to see a proxy for real interest rates in the United States, the world’s largest economy, is to look at the yield on Treasury Inflation Protected Securities (TIPS).

The leverage for a Forex demo is usually changeable, as traders can choose their leverage option at the time of opening an account. While live trading accounts have the option of changing the leverage according to the trader’s risk appetite, changing leverage in a demo account is slightly more complex. Nevertheless, traders should be able to modify their trading specifications by altering their contract size and risk percentages, allowing them to try out new strategies to find the winning formula.
Currency trading and exchange first occurred in ancient times.[4] Money-changers (people helping others to change money and also taking a commission or charging a fee) were living in the Holy Land in the times of the Talmudic writings (Biblical times). These people (sometimes called "kollybistẻs") used city stalls, and at feast times the Temple's Court of the Gentiles instead.[5] Money-changers were also the silversmiths and/or goldsmiths[6] of more recent ancient times.
