Whether you are a beginner trader or a pro, it is best to trade with what you see and not what you think. For example, you might think that the US dollar is overvalued and has been overvalued for too long. Naturally, you will want to short and you might be right eventually. But if the price is moving up, it does not matter what you think. In fact, it doesn't matter what anybody thinks – the price is moving up and you should be trading with the trend.

I'll start with a little background to put this review in context. I started getting interested in forex trading with an email touting some guy that had a "system." I signed up for his live webcam "learn how by watching me trade" membership, figuring I'd take advantage of the 3-month money back guarantee if I learned nothing. At 2 months I couldn't explain his system clearly to myself, and he was changing methods almost every day and frequently seeming to contradict things he'd said before. I kept at it for another couple weeks and then used the money back guarantee. I then started downloading and backtesting all kinds of indicators and EAs and browsing Amazon reviews looking for a better guide. Next I scanned a couple forex books and a couple on trading in general, and I used Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets as an encyclopedia. I continued playing with my practice account for a couple months, but could find nothing that worked consistently enough to be comfortable committing real money, and I lost interest.

As Day Traders and Swing Traders our mission is simple. We are looking for stocks that we expect will move in a predictable direction. We want to take a position with a predefined stop level and profit target. Sounds easy right? In a lot of ways it is. But there are literally thousands of different strategies for trading the market. Every trader has a unique approach to trading. Our goal is to teach you our strategies. I have developed a series of profitable trading strategies for beginners. Our Trading Courses focus on the most fundamental aspects of a successful trade.
Forex.com gives you access to shares, cryptocurrencies, equity indices, currencies commodities, and metals. If you opt for the propriety trading platform, you get access to over 80 currencies, 11 commodities, 10 metals, and 17 equity indices and over 200 shares. Unfortunately, the MT4 platform doesn’t give access to shares but you will still access all the others except for 7 commodities. Additionally, forex.com offers bitcoin trading with the ability to trade against EUR, GBP, AUD, and USD.
To determine whether an exchange rate will rise or fall, Forex traders mostly rely on two analytical disciplines – technical analysis and fundamental analysis. Technical analysis is based on price chart analysis and provides exact entry and exit points, while fundamental analysis is vaguer and involves the measurement of a currency’s fair price. It’s usually easier to learn technical analysis for beginners, as fundamentals include certain economic theories to be fully understood.
In all cases, to make a meaningful description of trading hours worldwide, the opening and closing times at each location worldwide need to be presented with a common base reference time. In this article, for instance, the data is referenced to GMT. In other articles with a United States orientation, however, the common base reference time often used is Eastern Standard Time. It isn't wrong, but it's a little confusing for readers who don't distinguish between GMT and EST --something few persons other than forex traders and airline personnel need to deal with on a regular basis.
Margin – The deposit required to open or maintain a position. Margin can be either “free” or “used”. Used margin is that amount which is being used to maintain an open position, whereas free margin is the amount available to open new positions. With a $1,000 margin balance in your account and a 1% margin requirement to open a position, you can buy or sell a position worth up to a notional $100,000. This allows a trader to leverage his account by up to 100 times or a leverage ratio of 100:1.
TD Ameritrade has been a mainstay in the market for its various trading tool options. Thinkorswim has brought both casual and serious traders to TD's business and, with it, you have access to stocks, bonds, options, ETFs, and even forex. However, you may want to look elsewhere if you are trying to find an all-in-one solution for all (or at least most) of your trading needs, TD Ameritrade may not deliver in that regard.F
The ‘Elliot Wave Theory’, named after Ralph Elliot, is one of the oldest forex strategies. He analyzed the stock price data for around 70 years and found out that human psychology (emotions, fear and greed) drove the market and that it moved iteratively. This is to say that the market switches between optimistic and pessimistic modes. In this strategy, the motive phase unfurls in 5 steps.
In 2016 and 2017, trading bitcoins has been growing quite popular with retail traders and major investors. The leading trading floors such as CME Group and CBOE Global Markets have already introduced trading futures on bitcoins. Bitcoin is the most sought-after digital currency. It has been recognized as a tradable asset and has become an integral part of the global financial system.

Hello pol79. Thank you for getting in touch. Yes, there are a few criteria you can base your decision on. First of all, have a look at what are the platforms out there that offer bitcoin as a trading option. Nowadays, that is probably most of them, so you will probably have to narrow down your search. We recommend looking for fully regulated platforms such as eToro. The most trusted regulatory agencies are the FCA, ASIC and CySEC so if you find a platform regulated by one of those agencies, that is definitely a good sign of their reliability. Other than that, we recommend to look for platforms with smooth and easy sign up processes, a good asset variety as well as low fees and a good variety of payment options. Asset variety is a very important characteristic because we recommend not to trade with bitcoin only, but to diversify your trades as much as you can.

Vanguard concentrates on its considerable energy on assisting its high prosperity clients plan for retirement and other long term objectives. Therefore, its own trading technologies is missing. Fulfilling their long term attention, there’s little of interest for busy traders or derivatives dealers. The stage is intentionally bare-bones. The resources offered for fiscal consultants are more…
The other way to avoid inadvertently connecting with a fraudulent broker is to proceed very carefully when considering a specialized Forex brokerage. Only open an account with a U.S. broker with a membership in the National Futures Association. Use the NFA's Background Affiliation Information Center to verify the brokerage and its compliance record. Even then, it's a good idea to choose a large, well-known Forex broker like FXCM, which stands for Forex Capital Markets. FXCM, like almost all of the largest U.S. Forex brokers, offers a free practice account where you can try out potential trades without risking your capital. Some other well-known U.S. Forex brokers are CitiFX PRO, an affiliate of CitiBank, and thinkorswim. Don't be put off by the cute name: it's a division of TDAmeritrade. Before finalizing your search, compare commission rates. Transaction costs are an important factor in the profitability of trading activity.
Followup to my previous analysis Mapping and Buying the Bottom (click). As we were hoping, UC may have bottomed and ready for uptrend. Recent economic news and a dovish BOC may support a trend change. We look to be in a "wave 3" of a textbook five-wave impulsive move. It is POSSIBLE that wave 3 has ended, but LIKELY for 3 to have one more leg. It is PROBABLE...

At the end of 1913, nearly half of the world's foreign exchange was conducted using the pound sterling.[24] The number of foreign banks operating within the boundaries of London increased from 3 in 1860, to 71 in 1913. In 1902, there were just two London foreign exchange brokers.[25] At the start of the 20th century, trades in currencies was most active in Paris, New York City and Berlin; Britain remained largely uninvolved until 1914. Between 1919 and 1922, the number of foreign exchange brokers in London increased to 17; and in 1924, there were 40 firms operating for the purposes of exchange.[26]

Now, plenty of "common" people own stock. Online trading has given anyone who has a computer, enough money to open an account and a reasonably good financial history the ability to invest in the market. You don't have to have a personal broker or a disposable fortune to do it, and most analysts agree that average people trading stock is no longer a sign of impending doom.

Retail Forex traders – Finally, we come to retail Forex traders (you and I). The retail Forex trading industry is growing everyday with the advent of Forex trading platforms and their ease of accessibility on the internet. Retail Forex traders access the market indirectly either through a broker or a bank. There are two main types of retail Forex brokers that provide us with the ability to speculate on the currency market: brokers and dealers. Brokers work as an agent for the trader by trying to find the best price in the market and executing on behalf of the customer. For this, they charge a commission on top of the price obtained in the market. Dealers are also called market makers because they ‘make the market’ for the trader and act as the counter-party to their transactions, they quote a price they are willing to deal at and are compensated through the spread, which is the difference between the buy and sell price (more on this later).
If a trader’s account falls below the minimum amount required to maintain an open position, he will receive a “margin call” requiring him to either add more money into his or her account or to close the open position. Most brokers will automatically close a trade when the margin balance falls below the amount required to keep it open. The amount required to maintain an open position is dependent on the broker and could be 50% of the original margin required to open the trade.
Paying customers can lease the platform and receive premium Trader + features such as automatic stop loss and profit target orders, one cancels the other (OCO) orders, and order entry hotkeys. Those who choose to buy lifetime access to the platform receive Trader + and Order Flow + features, the latter of which includes a market depth map, a volume profile drawing tool, and the ability to chart volume-weighted average prices with standard deviations.
For the options program, the FTID owner may request payment to their executing agent or by Electronic Funds Transfer ("EFT") directly to the customer. Payment instructions can be submitted using the link provided on the customer's daily statement. For the futures program, rebates will be paid to executing agents. If multiple executing agents are used, rebates will be paid pro rata to those agents based on their share of the customer's executed volume.
Plus500 on the other hand requires a minimum deposit of $100 while eToro requires $250. Plus500 also offers over 2,000 assets to choose from while eToro does not have anywhere near as many. If you want to find out more about them, you can check our both our eToro review and Plus500 review. In general, both options are really excellent, and no matter what you choose you are in safe hands. I hope that helps.
Financial Products Traded: All forex brokers offer the major currencies to be traded but there are many currency pairings (exotics) that only a limited number offer. Many online brokers also offer trading of CFDs, indices, commodities and even cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin. Some even include share trading allowing traders to have an all-in-one trading solution rather than multiple brokers and platforms.

Demo accounts are very normal accounts except that they cannot be used as real accounts. For example, using a demo account for an online game you can win multiple games or even lose multiple games. Either of the results will not impact the cash account or the card associated online with that game as it is just provisioned for the users to understand how to use and just for practice
Market execution (In the US only): FOREX.com offers a new Direct Market Access (DMA) account and execution method for its US offering. As part of this DMA account type, the execution-style is agency-based, and the broker only charges a commission. This account type also provides greater discounts for the most active traders, compared to FOREX.com’s Active Trader program.

Major currencies are the most common currencies traded in the FX market. These are US dollar (USD), Euro (EUR), British Pound (GPB), Swiss franc (CHF) and the Japanese yen (JPY), and the Canadian dollar (CAD). These are the most liquid currencies since they are the ones that are traded most often. Major pairs are any pairs that involve the USD and any one of these currencies.

Cryptocurrency is based on knowledge sharing on a distributed platform. The entire transactional history is for everyone to see. One blockchain is one thread of transaction. One unit or one block stores many transactions. The size of the block is 1MB and generally stores around 1000 to 2000 transactions. The data entered cannot be altered, nor can it be removed, enabling a system of complete transparency and trust. The entire money flow for the working model is beyond the traditional practices of controlling tax rates, credit usage, and money supply in the market.
XTB offers accessibility to various markets like forex, stocks, indices, metalsand commodities and even cryptocurrencies. Hello Jack. Thank you for your question. I think a lot of it depends on your level of online trading experience. If you do not have much, we would recommend having a look at auto trading robots. They are based on extremely sophisticated technologies that allow the platform to carry out the market analysis for you and to place the most profitable trades in complete automation. All you have to do is spend a few minutes a day to modify the settings but that’s it.
Whether you day-trade the foreign exchange market (forex), stocks, or futures, there are free demo accounts available for you to try. Each company that offers a simulator uses a different type of software called a trading platform. Taking the time to explore how each platform functions will give you the chance to see which one of them best suits your trading style.
Since automated trading systems vary in terms of speed, performance, programmability and complexity, what is good for one trader might not be good for another. Some Forex traders will want a program that generates reports, or imposes stops, trailing stops and other market orders. Other traders, such as those who are less experienced, may want a simpler program with a set-and-forget feature.
Balance of trade levels and trends: The trade flow between countries illustrates the demand for goods and services, which in turn indicates demand for a country's currency to conduct trade. Surpluses and deficits in trade of goods and services reflect the competitiveness of a nation's economy. For example, trade deficits may have a negative impact on a nation's currency.
When it comes to copy trading, size matters. eToro has over 10 million clients with the largest number offering to copy their trades due to a unique incentive system. The platform was designed around social trading and most financial markets can be traded especially cryptocurrencies. eToro is registered in Europe under CySEC (Cyprus Securities & Exchange Commission) with licence 109/10 and in the UK by FCA FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) licence 7973792. It also has multiple other licences such as with ASIC but does not available for US residences it does not have a licence with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
The market of cryptocurrencies is fast and wild. Nearly every day new cryptocurrencies emerge, old die, early adopters get wealthy and investors lose money. Every cryptocurrency comes with a promise, mostly a big story to turn the world around. Few survive the first months, and most are pumped and dumped by speculators and live on as zombie coins until the last bagholder loses hope ever to see a return on his investment.
Forex Quotes change rapidly during the trading day. Exchange rate is the cost of the chosen currency at a certain moment of time in comparison with the other currency. In the Forex Rates table below you can find the exchange rates of the most popular currencies as well as the latest fluctuations between them. You can also use our free currency converter tool to calculate live foreign exchange rates.
Liquidity – important for all trading, liquidity refers to how fast or slow an asset can be bought or sold. If Bitcoin has high liquidity on an exchange, it means you can buy it and sell it near instantly. If Bitcoin has low liquidity on another exchange, it means that you may have some stagnation when it comes to buying or selling Bitcoin, which means you could be waiting for a while.
Technical analysis involves the analysis of price charts and is based on the assumption that history tends to repeat itself. In other words, a certain price pattern that worked great in the past should work equally good in the future. While technical analysis is not a perfect science, it has a proven track record and there are many Forex traders out there that trade solely based on technical analysis. Unlike fundamental analysis, technical analysis provides exact entry and exit points for a trade.
In practice, the specialist's work involves some degree of risk. It can happen, for example, that the specialist accepts a bid or buy order at a given price, but before finding a seller, the currency's value increases. He is still responsible for filling the accepted buy order and may have to accept a sell order that is higher than the buy order he has committed to filling.
Two years into the coin's production World War I began and production of the coins stopped in favour of tighter control over Canadian gold reserves. Most of the 1914 coins produced never reached circulation at the time and some were stored for more than 75 years until being sold off in 2012. The high quality specimens were sold to the public and the visually unappealing ones were melted.[15]
Customer Satisfaction: Customer service varies significantly between forex brokers. While most will have a call centre that is open 24 hours during business days, only some offer services such as live chat. A limited number also offer dedicated account manager which can be useful for those new to currency trading or those that required support for advanced trading systems.
Other things should also be taken into consideration. For example, most brokers accept at least a few different payment methods. Some of them may be exclusively available to Canadian traders, whereas other are international payment methods, like popular e-Wallets or major credit or debit cards. It is important to check whether the forex broker that you like to trade with charges any extra fees on deposits and withdrawals. Furthermore, it is also important whether payments are processed quickly or not.
A currency trading platform is a software interface provided by currency brokers to their customers to give them access as traders in the Forex markets. This may be an online, web-based portal, mobile app, a standalone downloadable program, or any combination of the three. The platform may also provide tools for research in addition to tools for order processing.

Pepperstone was founded in 2010 originally based in Australia with Australia Securities And Investment (ASIC) regulation. The broker is now also regulated in the UK with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and is in the process of receiving an FSB licence in South Africa. All client deposits and funds are segregated into ‘tier 1’ banks such as the National Australia Bank.

The distinctive pattern shows how the currency price can have two troughs and another increase before finally dropping. Notice how the shoulders, while not always identical in height, never exceed the height of the head. Traders will often look for a level of symmetry between the two shoulders, meaning the time between the first shoulder and the head can be similar to the time between the head and the second should, however this is not a firm rule. Necklines tend to form a polarity point in markets where necklines that previously acted as support in an uptrend turn into resistance in the reversal. After the second should has been reached, it’s a good signal that the price will then fall. Can you identify any emerging head and shoulders patterns in the USD/CAD currency pairing?

Forex trading does involve risk as does any form of investment. There is a risk of sharp fluctuations in foreign exchange markets as you would get with stock, bond or commodity markets. The main difference though is the foreign exchange market is highly liquid in nature and this reduces the risk of being able to buy or sell where a trader cannot find another market participant to transact with.
Trading foreign exchange on margin carries a high level of risk and may not be suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to trade foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss in excess of your initial investment. You should be aware of all the risks associated with foreign exchange trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
Most retail investors should spend time investigating a forex dealer to find out whether it is regulated in the U.S. or the U.K. (dealers in the U.S. and U.K. have more oversight) or in a country with lax rules and oversight. It is also a good idea to find out what kind of account protections are available in case of a market crisis, or if a dealer becomes insolvent.
It is crucial to have your orders executed quickly. If there is a delay in filling your order, it can cause you losses. That is why your forex broker should be able to execute orders in less than 1 second. Why? Forex is a fast-moving market – and many forex brokers don’t keep pace with its speed, or purposefully slow down execution to steal a few pips from you even during slow market movements.

Once you know what category of training you seek, you need to decide on whether you want free education or are happy to pay for the knowledge. If you have a lot of time and are fairly new to forex trading then your best bet is to undertake as many free courses as you can to build up your general knowledge and find out what specific areas you would like to focus on.
This, of course, does not apply to retail customers. Most individual currency speculators will trade using a broker which will typically have a spread marked up to say 3-20 pips (so in our example 1.4237/1.4239 or 1.423/1.425). The broker will give their clients often huge amounts of margin, thereby facilitating clients spending more money on the bid/ask spread. The brokers are not regulated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (since they do not sell securities), so they are not bound by the same margin limits as stock brokerages. They do not typically charge margin interest, however since currency trades must be settled in 2 days, they will "resettle" open positions (again collecting the bid/ask spread).
What I try to do in all my books, is to show you how to apply that knowledge to help you become a more confident trader. After all, learning is all well and good, but if we are not taught how to apply that knowledge in a practical way, then it is of little use. It is the application of knowledge that empowers, and this is what I have tried to do here, and in my online training rooms, and all my books.
Low liquidity may sometimes impact our ability to offer prices on certain instruments, and our spreads are dynamic and may therefore widen. During this period, prices may move rapidly and consequently your trade/ order may be executed at a materially different price to the one that is quoted on the trading platform. Use the price bound setting on your trade ticket. View the margin requirements of your region on our regulatory page.

Advance notice may be required to obtain some currencies.

For the 22 international forex brokers included in our customer service assessment, we conducted institutional-grade phone testing with the help of UK-based customer experience research group Customerwise. Over the course of six weeks, 330 phone tests were conducted across the UK (Note: brokers who do not offer any UK-based phone support were excluded from testing).

One of the aspects of currency trading that makes it riskier than trading in the stock market is that the entire currency trading industry is either lightly regulated or, with respect to some trades, not regulated at all. A consequence of that is that unless you look carefully into the reputation of the Forex broker you select, you may be defrauded. There are two ways of avoiding this.
Yobit.net was founded in Russia and introduced through a forum in 2015. It caters to Russian, English, and Chinese traders. The Bitcoin exchange accepts payments only in the fiat currency USD. In order to purchase Bitcoins, the client should transfer funds in USD to his/her the account. Yobit.net offers a wide range of cryptocurrencies such as BTC, ETH, DASH, XBY, and DOGE, among others. Trading on this platform is very easy, even for those who are new to cryptocurrencies.

This is an order placed to sell below the current price (to close a long position), or to buy above the current price (to close a short position). Stop loss orders are an important risk management tool. By setting stop loss orders against open positions you can limit your potential downside should the market move against you. Remember that stop orders do not guarantee your execution price – a stop order is triggered once the stop level is reached, and will be executed at the next available price.

^ The total sum is 200% because each currency trade always involves a currency pair; one currency is sold (e.g. US$) and another bought (€). Therefore each trade is counted twice, once under the sold currency ($) and once under the bought currency (€). The percentages above are the percent of trades involving that currency regardless of whether it is bought or sold, e.g. the U.S. Dollar is bought or sold in 88% of all trades, whereas the Euro is bought or sold 32% of the time.

Forex trading is especially good for offering higher leverage from the viewpoint of preliminary margin requirements; traders have the ability to build and maintain control of large sums of money. If you’re looking to calculate leverage based on the margin, simply divide the transaction value by the margin amount required from you. Leverage may be used by individual investors or corporate investors and can greatly increase the available returns for an investment.
Whilst you’re busy trading money, your forex broker is busy trying to make it – and the spread is how they make their money. The spread is simply the difference between the bid and the asking price, with each unit known as a pip. Individual brokers get to decide the spread for each currency pair, so it’s worth hunting around to find competitive spread – not all brokers will offer the same.

When determining your trading strategy, you will also have to consider how much money you will have to start with. The amount of money in your trading account can make a big difference as to what type of strategy would be best for you. If you start out with a small balance of fewer than 1,000 dollars, then you would be wise to find the best Mt4 trading strategy. This is because Mt4 is a platform that forex traders rely on. They do not need a large sum of money to start trading. It would also be wise to consider finding a suitable method for keeping your stop losses small. Larger stops can mean more significant declines.

A year or so later I ran across an article about Richard Dennis and the 'Turtle Traders'. I realized: a) people do make money doing these things, b) anyone can learn the methods, c) and there are experts out there who are willing to share their knowledge. I started looking for a good book again and almost immediately found Anna's books. Forex for Beginners was so cheap and the free sample indicated it would be an easy read. Halfway through, and also after reading comments about it on several forums, I was sold on VPA. I decided to re-open my FXCM practice account and try some of her recommendations, then read the next book (A Complete Guide to Volume Price Analysis) while waiting for my account to fund. She recommends not using a practice account for anything more than learning the interface, for several reasons: real money is more meaningful and lessons stick better, the practice account feed is usually not a real live feed even if they say it is, and the practice feed won't show you the sudden spikes in the spread caused by your broker sometimes taking advantage of a fast moving market. Forex for Beginners was very helpful in explaining how the different types of forex brokers' operations can work against your interests if you have the wrong type of broker, and how to find the right type so you're not betting against the house.
In order to give their clients a proper overall view of the platforms that they offer, the demo account will permit the trader to try out all the different platforms from a single demo account. Nevertheless it should be noted most brokers will tend to conserve resources by allowing the demo account to conduct paper trades only on one specific trading platform.
Also, when it comes to providing trading platform access, most brokers offer two main options. The first is an online trading platform usually accessed via your Internet browser. The second is a client-side trading platform that will generally need to be downloaded and installed on your Windows-based PC. Both options require an Internet connection to provide up-to-date pricing and trade execution in your forex demo account.
What is the commission structure? Most online forex brokerages provide trade executions without charging trade commissions. Instead, the broker is compensated by the price spread between the bid and the offer. A few brokers offer a commission-based pricing structure coupled with narrower trading spreads. If the brokerage charges a per-trade commission, you need to factor that cost into your calculations to see if it’s really a better deal than a spread-based commission.

Anybody who has a personal contact with a successful forex trader has a huge advantage here because they can probably point you in the right direction. But keep in mind that they will not necessarily be able to just hand over their success to you on a plate. Often, a trader has taken years or even decades working on their mindset to make them able to use a particular system successfully.

Stop loss – a type of order that is placed relative to an already placed order that says if the position starts to lose “x” amount of value, “stop” the entire position. If you have a buy order for Bitcoin and have a 20% stop loss, you have an order type that if your position loses anymore than 19.99% value, it will close out. This is good protection against potential price swings.
