The Shooting Star candle pattern has the same structure as the Inverted Hammer candle. It has a small body, a long upper shadow and a tiny or no lower shadow. However, the Shooting Star Forex candle comes after bullish trends and signalizes that the bulls are exhausted. As a result, a reversal and a fresh price decrease usually appear afterward. Therefore, Shooting Star candlestick chart patterns act as a signal to short Forex pairs. The confirmation of the Hammer, Inverted Hammer, the Shooting Star and the Hanging Man comes with the candle which closes in the direction opposite to the trend. This candle is likely to be the first of an eventual emerging trend.
Existing Canadian laws state that any Forex broker can operate in Canada without a regulatory license. Therefore, it doesn’t make sense for companies to set up their base of operations in Canada to cater to a relatively small portion of the retail trading market. Of course, there are tax benefits and the renewed sense of trust from Canadian traders by getting regulated by a Canadian authority; however, the cost involved in setting up a company from scratch along with a confused Canadian regulatory structure can act as the primary deterrent for brokers. The ultimate aim for any business would be to achieve consistent profits, which can only be gained through a stable marketplace. The Canadian regulatory structure is still in its primitive phase, and there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the future course of action regarding the regulation of financial entities.
For the options program, the FTID owner may request payment to their executing agent or by Electronic Funds Transfer ("EFT") directly to the customer. Payment instructions can be submitted using the link provided on the customer's daily statement. For the futures program, rebates will be paid to executing agents. If multiple executing agents are used, rebates will be paid pro rata to those agents based on their share of the customer's executed volume.
Reputation And Regulation: The sad truth about forex trading historically is there have been forex scams. These have almost always been done by overseas forex brokers that are not locally regulated and have a poor reputation. It’s worth viewing review websites such as Trust Pilot prior to selecting an online broker and making sure they are regulated by ASIC.
Each futures trade is $1.50 (per side, per contract, plus exchange fees), excluding bitcoin futures trades, which are $2.50 (per side, per contract, plus exchange fees). In addition to the per contract, per side commission, futures customers may be assessed additional fees, including applicable futures exchange and National Futures Association fees, as well as brokerage charges for execution of non-electronically traded futures and futures options contracts. These fees are not established by E*TRADE and will vary by exchange.
"Unrealized" in this case means that trade positions are still open (but can be closed any time). As soon as you close the trade the profit and loss calculation takes place and, in case of profit, the margin balance will increase, while in case of a loss it reduces. As unrealized P&L calculation is marked to market, it keeps changing constantly as your margin balance does. But do not panic, it is simpler than you think – in order to calculate P&L of a position, you need to check position size and by how many pips the price has moved. Position size multiplied by pip movement will show you the actual profit or loss.
Does it meet your needs? – There is no one size fits all. Different trading software will suit different people. Are you following a simple stocks strategy such as moving average tracking? Alternatively, do you want to employ a more complicated multi-conditional strategy? Will you need a direct forex feed? To make sure it caters for your needs get a free software download trial and practice day trading on it first.
If you want to test a specific software before committing to it, the best way to do it is a “demo account”. A demo account is a form of practice account where you trade for free with “play money” using the real software and its features. It’s a great way to trial softwares, strategies and your own skills and is something we highly recommend. We list all trading demo accounts here.
Gold is traded in the spot market, and the gold spot price is quoted as US dollar per troy ounce. Since 1919, the most common benchmark for the price of gold has been the London gold fixing, a twice-daily telephone meeting of representatives from five bullion-trading firms of the London bullion market. Gold is traded continuously throughout the world based on the intra-day spot price, derived from over-the-counter gold-trading markets around the world (code XAU).
Technical analysis involves the analysis of price charts and is based on the assumption that history tends to repeat itself. In other words, a certain price pattern that worked great in the past should work equally good in the future. While technical analysis is not a perfect science, it has a proven track record and there are many Forex traders out there that trade solely based on technical analysis. Unlike fundamental analysis, technical analysis provides exact entry and exit points for a trade.
Foreign exchange (or forex) markets are one of the fastest and most volatile financial markets to trade. Money can be made or lost in a matter of seconds; at the same time, currencies can display significant trends lasting several days, weeks, even years. Most importantly, forex markets are always moving, providing an accessible and target-rich trading environment.
2) Pseudonymous: Neither transactions nor accounts are connected to real-world identities. You receive Bitcoins on so-called addresses, which are randomly seeming chains of around 30 characters. While it is usually possible to analyze the transaction flow, it is not necessarily possible to connect the real-world identity of users with those addresses.

Weekends are the ideal time to learn the ins and outs of a trading platform and find out how your chosen platform can assist your trading. A selection of advanced trading platforms allows traders to analyze a number of different strategies, applied to past data, for a better understanding of how these strategies would have played out. This process is called back-testing and is an excellent way of testing a strategy before employing it in live conditions.
The bid represents the price at which the broker is willing to buy the base currency (the euro in our example) in exchange for the counter currency the dollar. Conversely, the ask price is the price at which the broker is willing to sell the base currency in exchange for the counter currency. Forex prices are generally quoted using five numbers. So, for example, let's say we had a EUR/USD bid price of 1.07321 and ask price of 1.07335, the spread would be 1.4.
This method is all about analyzing important news happenings on different fronts in a nation and understanding the implications that they will have on the currency market. The trader will then place the trades accordingly. The market moves in an unpredictable manner when there are sudden political or economic happenings in any nation. As the forex market operates round the clock, news flows in from all parts of the world. Trading on the basis of economic news and data suits all kinds of traders wherever they are and whichever currency they choose to trade.
A forex pair is a term such as 'EURUSD', 'GBPUSD' or 'USDJPY', which can be used to find a price for one currency versus another. For example, the pair USD/JPY describes how many Japanese Yen (JPY) you can buy with one US Dollar (USD). The first currency is the base currency you are using to buy, while the second currency symbol is the units you will receive on a trade. For example, the forex quote of GBPUSD denotes how many USD you will receive for the cost of 1 GBP.
On September 28, 2007, the Canadian dollar closed above the U.S. dollar for the first time in 30 years, at US$1.0052. On November 7, 2007, it hit US$1.1024 during trading, a modern-day high after China announced it would diversify its US$1.43 trillion foreign exchange reserve away from the U.S. dollar. By November 30, however, the Canadian dollar was once again at par with the U.S. dollar, and on December 4, the dollar had retreated back to US$0.98, through a cut in interest rates made by the Bank of Canada due to concerns about exports to the U.S.
Every country in the world has a regulatory body that you can research, so you can check that your potential broker is affiliated with them. In the U.S., brokers should be registered with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as a Futures Commission Merchant and Retail Foreign Exchange Dealer. They’ll also be a member of the National Futures Association (NFA).

Trading is a journey that can last a lifetime. While the idea of ‘buying low, and selling high,’ might sound simple enough; in actuality, profitable trading is considerably more difficult than just buying when price moves down, or selling when price moves higher. A trader’s Forex education can traverse a variety of market conditions and trading styles.
If you are currently holding a position and the spread widens dramatically, you may be stopped out of your position or receive a margin call. The only way to protect yourself during times of widening spreads is to limit the amount of leverage used in your account. It is also sometimes beneficial to hold onto a trade during times of spread-widening until the spread has narrowed.

For example – the rate you find for GBP/USD represents the number of US dollars one British pound will buy you. So, if you have reason to believe the pound will increase in value versus the US dollar, you’d look to purchase pounds with US dollars. However, if the exchange rate climbs, you’d sell your pounds back and make a profit. Likewise with Euros, Yen etc
Flights to quality: Unsettling international events can lead to a "flight-to-quality", a type of capital flight whereby investors move their assets to a perceived "safe haven". There will be a greater demand, thus a higher price, for currencies perceived as stronger over their relatively weaker counterparts. The US dollar, Swiss franc and gold have been traditional safe havens during times of political or economic uncertainty.

A managed forex account allows a professional manager (or someone who claims to be so) to trade your funds on your behalf for a salary or a fixed share of the profits. You may select a specialized firm for this purpose or a broker that offers a sophisticated software feature that permits your account balance to be traded by an expert. The latter service does provide an extra level of risk protection. You must always be careful in selecting a money manager that you can trust and that has earned a good reputation in the industry. While most money managers are legitimate, there have been several notable scams in the past (a few are discussed below). In many other cases, an enterprising person will setup a firm advertising his services to clients and will trade their funds on an independent basis. This second type of manager and the dangers created by associating with him is the subject of this article.
Although markets in many foreign countries are closed when North American markets are open, trading on foreign currencies still takes place. While the majority of trading on a particular currency occurs when its main market is open, many other banks around the world hold foreign currencies enabling them to be traded at times when the main market is closed. For example, the North American markets are open when the Japanese markets are closed, but North American traders are still able to buy and sell Japanese yen through their brokerages and banks. However, the market for Japanese yen is more liquid at times when the Japanese market is open.
To use an extreme example, imagine holding an account balance of 2,000 EUR and putting all of that on a single trade. If the trade goes badly, you will have lost your entire investment, and because the Forex market can move very quickly, losses can also happen very quickly. This is where risk management is essential - to help you minimise losses and protect any profits you do make. The key areas to consider when managing your Forex trading risk are trading psychology, and money management.
Demo accounts were not particularly feasible before the widespread use of personal computers and the Internet. When trades were mostly recorded using paper, monitoring a virtual trade would have been time-consuming and costly, eliminating the primary benefit of a demo account, namely that it’s free. Demo accounts began to be offered by online brokerages in the 2000s, as high-speed internet was starting to be adopted by more Americans. Demo accounts have also been adopted as a means of teaching high school students the basics of investing in the stock market. Many school districts around the country offer personal finance or economics classes that require students to maintain a demo stock account and monitor the progress of their investments over the course of the semester.
The forex market is a very volatile market. When the market is volatile, traders get lessons on how to hedge, develop and acquire broad/diverse portfolios, and act on low leverage to exploit the prevailing market condition. There are two different types of volatility. They are historical and implied volatility. The former refers to the normal price action with respect to a period of time (say, a month or year). Abnormal current and future price action is referred to as implied volatility. It often exceeds the historical range when compared with the historical price action.

A falling wedge after a downtrend could signify that the downtrend is getting a bit dated, increasing the potential for a pullback in the price. Traders can respond to resistance when witnesses the enthusiasm that drove the original downtrend, however a less aggressive trend-line at the lows can indicate a slowing motivation from sellers when they re-test the lows
But the real revolution was the introduction of online platforms that allowed customers to place limit orders. A limit order is an instruction to buy or sell a currency at a specified price or better.7 Enabling customers to place limit orders meant they could trade forex online anonymously, bypassing dealers. When customers were no longer dependent on dealers, bid-ask spreads started to reduce, resulting in better forex prices for businesses and individuals.8
Spot Prices represent the midpoint between Monex bullion bid and ask prices per ounce. A Current Spot Price is calculated based on a virtual non-stop price discovery process of most active comparable commodity transactions. For example, if the price per ounce of the current gold “Spot” month is two dollars less than the COMEX/NYMEX futures contract price, then at a time when that future contract trades at a given price, say $1200, it suggests a spot price of $1198. Obviously, market prices can fluctuate irrespective of a COMEX/NYMEX futures contract trading.
Forex trading refers to the trading of currencies. In a globalized world, companies and organizations must be able to quickly exchange currencies in order to facilitate global operations and purchases. A large company like General Electric can have operations in literally dozens of countries. This means that General Electric must be able to quickly access various currencies in order to pay local staff and make purchases, among other things.

Thinkorswim is a particular standout in options trading, with options-trading tabs (just click “spread” if you want a spread and “single order” if you want one leg), plus links that explain the strategies on the order page. Managing your money in Forex trading comes down to the specific measures you use to increase your profits, whilst also minimising potential losses. Successful Forex trading has far more to do with effective money management than having a handful of good trades, and is one of the secrets that separates those who successfully trade FX over the long term, from those who give up after a couple of trades.
Below we can see an example of the forex spread being calculated for the EUR/USD. First, we will find the buy price at 1.13398 and then subtract the sell price of 1.3404. What we are left with after this process is a reading of .00006. Traders should remember that the pip value is then identified on the EUR/USD as the 4th digit after the decimal, making the final spread calculated as 0.6 pips.
Trading contains substantial risk and is not for every investor. An investor could potentially lose all or more than the initial investment. Risk capital is money that can be lost without jeopardizing one's financial security or life style. Only risk capital should be used for trading and only those with sufficient risk capital should consider trading. Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results. Financially, correlation is typically considered to be a statistical measure indicating how two different securities are moving with relation to one another. In the Forex market, correlation is used to help figure the correlation coefficient, which has a value ranging from -1 to +1; a +1 coefficient is incredibly rare and is the result of perfect positive correlation, meaning that as one security increases or decreases in value, the other will follow suit every time. Conversely, a perfect negative correlation, denoted as -1, will ensure that the price of one security increases or decreases in perfect opposition to the other.
Hedge funds – Somewhere around 70 to 90% of all foreign exchange transactions are speculative in nature. This means, the person or institutions that bought or sold the currency has no plan of actually taking delivery of the currency; instead, the transaction was executed with sole intention of speculating on the price movement of that particular currency. Retail speculators (you and I) are small cheese compared to the big hedge funds that control and speculate with billions of dollars of equity each day in the currency markets.
When learning about Forex trading, many beginners tend to focus on major currency pairs because of their daily volatility and tight spreads. But there are numerous other opportunities – from exotic FX pairs, to CFD trading opportunities on stocks, commodities, energy futures, to indices. There are even indices that track groups of indices, and you can trade them as well.
So that is the straightforward, universal, method used to quote currencies in the marketplace, now let's look at how the spread is calculated. Forex quotes are always provided with "bid and ask" prices, or "buy and sell" this is similar to what many investors will be familiar with if they have ever bought or sold equities; there is a different price to sell a share and there is a difference price to buy a share. Generally this small spread is the broker's profit on the transaction, or the commission.
As the 20th century drew to a close, independent financial firms (not banks) started to introduce online forex trading platforms for end users. Currenex, launched in 1999, ended the chore of obtaining competitive exchange rate quotes by telephoning individual banks: instead, customers could send a “request-for-quote” to many forex dealers simultaneously. The dealers were required to respond within a few seconds, and end-customers would then trade with the dealer of their choice.6
The downside to the carry trade is that typically the interest differentials are not that much compared to how much risk you are taking. Also, currency pairs that are good for carry trading typically have a strong reaction to any news that presents a risk to the global markets. In other words, as long as things are good, these pairs will rise and pay. If something goes wrong, sometimes unexpectedly, they will plunge very hard and very fast. If you are overleveraged, you can blow up your account in a blink.
A simple Google search shows roughly two million results for "forex trading courses." To narrow the search, focus on the courses that have solid reputations. There are many scams promising giant returns and instant profits (more on this later). Don't believe the hype. A solid training program won't promise anything but useful information and proven strategies.
Assume that a hedge fund holds 20 stocks in a portfolio and allocates 5% of the portfolio to each stock. At the end of each month, they rebalance the portfolio so that each stock once again represents 5%. They do this by selling stocks that have a higher than 5% allocation, or buying stocks that have a lower than 5% allocation. Some stocks may be dropped from the portfolio, and others added. Any new stocks that are added will be allocated 5% of the portfolio.

Securing a standard office is part of what will consume a large chunk of your start-up capital, but if you choose to start the business on a small scale, you may not have the need to go source for fund to finance the business.
Warren Buffett is the best example to hit this point home. In 2008, he bet some hedge fund managers $1 million that they wouldn’t be able to make more money in a decade than a cheap, boring index fund. An index fund uses simple investing algorithms to track an index and doesn’t require active human management. Conversely, hedge funds stack management fees on top of trading fees to pay for the time and knowledge actual strategists are putting into your investments.
